Supplier sourcing and certification
"As a distributor, we are in the critical position between our customer and these diverse suppliers. To help our customers succeed, it is crucial that we understand our customers’ needs and have strong supplier diversity offerings that we execute well.”
Cathy Mock, Director of Supplier Diversity
On an on-going basis, Cardinal Health’s supplier diversity team, procurement category leaders and other tactical procurement decision makers, attend networking events and trade shows, to meet and identify potentially viable diverse businesses to compete on procurement opportunities. Additionally, diverse supplier inclusion is incorporated into the Procurement Services 7-step sourcing process, which insures that small and diverse supplies are afforded the maximum practicable opportunity for inclusion.
Further, Cardinal Health has aligned with several national and local organizations that provide sourcing and evaluation services. Cardinal Health may request that the organizations perform the sourcing or may elect to source directly. The organizations/databases with whom Cardinal Health has aligned are:
- National Minority Supplier Development Council and affiliated regional councils

- Healthcare Supplier Diversity Alliance

- Small Business Administration

- Defense Contract Management Area Office - Chicago for referral of suppliers
- Women’s Business Development Center

- DIR/Supplier Gateway

Additional sourcing contacts occur during Cardinal Health’s outreach efforts at various women and minority business trade shows that take place during the plan year and via professional networking. Suppliers will be reviewed for product or service suitability and as well as certification requirements.
Supplier Certification
In order to ensure a fair and equitable program and protect its integrity, Cardinal Health requires that its business partners certify their ownership and control. This certification may be self-initiated by the firms who execute the contract or purchase order. Cardinal Health has specific certification requirements for minority, women and HUBzone based businesses but will accept other third party forms of certification. It is strongly recommended that all small business category suppliers be certified by the Small Business Administration, minority suppliers by an NMSDC affiliate council, and women suppliers by WBENC.
